Web design article: Trying tilt shift photography

Have you always wanted to turn that shot that you have from the top of the Eiffel tower into a miniature version (yeah because who would not want to do that). Anyway if you are like me and have contemplated that very thought, then here is a easy way that you can fake a miniature scene.

Web design inspiration: Monochrome vs Fauvism

I have to decided to inspire you again by playing with a bit of contrasting color palettes from two music videos that I found the other day. The first color scheme comes from Dance in the Dark by DEV and the second is Rihanna's Only Girl, which is reminiscent of Matisse and his colorful movement.

Blog showcase: Once upon a milkshake

Once Upon a Milkshake

This is a spin off article from the interview that I did with Chanel Rossouw. She runs, along with her boyfriend  Joel Kanar, a quirky blog called 'OnceUponAMilkshake' . They started this blog with the simple goal 'to find 'the best milkshakes out there'. This is the story behind the blog and it's design.

Is the website dead?

Is the website, as we know it, dead? If so, what is going to replace it and will it be the case of better the devil you know?

This month's featured designer: Chanel Rossouw

chanel rossouw design inspirationI have decided to share with you an informal interview that I conducted on a designer, photographer and milkshake connoisseur that stuck out for me, I found while perusing around Deviantart.com. Her name is Chanel Rossouw and her work is really quite something.

Web design article: Going local

South Africa's web design industry is still in it's early stages of infancy, when compared to the caliber of work coming out of Europe and Asia, but that it is slowly changing. The main folly of South African designers are that they either follow a trend too religiously or they completely ignore timeless trends completely. Either way their designs seem dated. I have selected just a few of, in my opinion, the best work South Africa has to offer.

Web design inspiration: The many colors of Gaga

The queen of shock and roll may take some getting used to, but her undeniable sense of color and her reputation for breaking the mould is something designers could really use. Inspiration is our game in the web design industry and this article is no exception, we will be taking a closer look at some of the palettes, hues and shades from the mother of all things strange herself.

Web design fonts: 3 fonts for August

I have just decided to release a three font bonanza. I have just finished creating 3 wicked fonts, Sketchbook & Doodle, Olive Marker Pen and Zeroz.

Looking to improve your portfolio

I came across this great blog (http://goo.gl/DweQn) that can be used to improve (or bolster) your current creative portfolio. It has a couple of great sample design briefs that cover a range of topics (from fire extinguishers to garden centres) that can be used to jolt the creative juices into motion. By the by http://goo.gl/tOr4v also has some great articles about illustrations, advertising and logo design.

Chocolate web design

My theory is that for the best inspiration, when stuck in a creative rut, is to immerse yourself in the product (There are exceptions, naturally), so that you can get a lay of the land. In this case, this theory works like a charm. I came across with amazing recipe (http://goo.gl/eG8gH), and thought that I should share one of the most impressive and unique chocolate website on the internet today.

Let me introduce you to the Chocolate Research Facility (http://goo.gl/Q6zwM). Their website is really something different. I won't say anything more, saunter over there now and check it out for yourself. With crazy chocolate flavours (like Cheese chocolate???) and a simple flash based showcase of them, this site should inspire you to create something rich and decadent as your next project.

Sneak peek at new PSD layout

Smashed olive logo

Have been working on a new e-commerce layout as of late. I will add a couple of screenshot later once I have worked out the kinks and knots because something about it does not gel nicely.

Logos of the day

This week's inspiration

This week's inspiration: The Divine Dairy

And yet another great piece of package design inspiration from theDieline.com (http://www.thedieline.com/blog/2011/2/24/divine-dairy.html).

Kitchen Creative PSD...continued

Kitchen Creative screenshot

Another screenshot of the mysterious project that I have been working on. A nice featured post section with a dark background for emphasis, basic information about the recipe etc. The sidebar, I suspect would become sticky, so that if one was to scroll down to view the other, older blog posts, the general information about the blog would remain with you. Then again that is not my decision, it was merely a suggestion, as creativity is in the eye of the beholder. I am polishing off this project and it should be ready to ship within the next two weeks. Let me know what you think (have any suggestions about Kitchen Creative or about this blog?)

Dieline Awards 2011

Let me introduce you to theDieline.com, a brilliant website if you are interested in package design inspiration across a wide range of faculties, from wine bottles to cereal boxes. Starting off in 2009 with a simple mantra of showcasing the progress of the package design industry, theDieline Awards has grown into a powerhouse of creative ideas

Kitchen Creative PSD

Kitchen Creative sneak peak

Here is a rough screenshot of a PSD layout that I will be releasing soon. It can be easily sliced and diced, converted into a stunning Wordpress template/theme or beaten into a usable home page of your next 'foody' website. The inspiration behind this particular layout was, admittedly boredom yes, but also the beautiful open spaces that your typical, minimal magazine layout offers. The final product, with her screenshots, should be ready within a few days.

Let me know what you guys think of it.

Welcome

Monday's Postal is a space, a creative space. A simple creative space filled with design inspiration, web articles and things that generally interest me. Feel free to post, comment, rant, rave, scream, shout or do a jig, this is your space.
