Plascon color forecast 2012: Expression

expression plascon design inspirationThis final palette is from Plascon color forecast and predictions for 2012. Listen closely to this forecast becasuse Plascon is at the forefont of color and color related inspiration. These colors may, in this context, appeal to the interior design faculty, but in reality it applies to every and all design fields.

This final palette is for all of those to-hell-with-the-trends designers who were born to break the convention.  Plascon has called this one, Expression and it is refreshingly different from its counterparts. This palette is heavy with stronger, more forceful colors that, one might say, follow on from the vibrant shades that we have seen in 2011. Primary colors; reds, yellow and blues are again in the spotlight, making a return into mainstream design circles and trends. Danela Conti did predict that blues, namely navy, would be hot in 2012 and seeing this palette makes me think that she may be on the right track.

Plascon put it perfectly, "The time for subtley is over". That sums up this palette perfectly. They have said that the "theme of celebration is making itself known". Vibrant, jovial and boyant colors, namely Lobster Red and
Baked Earth are worth celebrating about. The Union Jack was the souce of the blues and reds, according to Plascon's forecast brochure. This is ideal, because London and her design scene is a great way to garner inspiration. Think of the bold red of those iconic telephone booths; think of the endless ways in which you can use that one color.

Simplicity, not only in this palette but in all of Plascon's forecast, will again become the starting point. Bold, uncomplicated colors that are bright and unashamed need to become high up in your go-to color toolbox. The elements, according to Plascon, that inspired the Expression's palette are, "White with brights, smooth and flat, crisp and defined, purposeful, abstract geometric patterns, color blocking"

I like that Plascon has encorporated the word "purposeful" into this palette, because Danela Conti did say that "articles must have a purpose" when doing away with wasteful excess and consumerism. This seems to become a reoccuring trend, along with the use of crips whites, that will definelty follow into 2012.
