With soulful lyrics and rich imagery, Florence + the Machine has made her mark on the world. Here is a couple of color palette's inspired by her deep sense of color and meaningful music videos.
This first palette comes from Florence + the Machine's music video, Dog Days Are Over - check it out over here - http://goo.gl/z3Ixq. The neutral palette, of whites and beige, acts as a great stage for the richer, bolder reds, brown and purples. This is a great palette because it has a great variation of neutral and colors with impact, which are essential in the design process. There is also a softer gold color that forms part of her kimono in the music video. Gold is great as a moderation color because if it is used too often it would overpower and kill a stunning design concept.
This next palette comes from Florence + the Machine's music video, Cosmic Love - check it out here - http://goo.gl/ZtebA. This particular scene in the music video has a much darker undertone which acts as a great background for the glowing shades of green, cyan, red and purple. The black from the palette could be substituted for a royal or navy blue which would work equally well in accentuating the lighter shades. The main element in this scene that creates impact and gels the scene together is the use of strong contrast between the colors. It draws in viewer in and holds their attention.
This next palette also comes from Florence + the Machine's music video, Cosmic Love. This palette is a great contract to the previous one. Earthy, more natural colors are dominant here, whereas more ethereal and unnatural were the order of the day in the previous palette and scene. Yellows, oranges and pale greens are the basis of this palette which allow for the deeper reds and greens to harmonize and solidify this color scheme. The impact color in this palette would be either the orange or the red, depending if you are looking at a lighter or darker design scheme; both work well with the rest of the palette.
So go and check out all of Florence + the Machine's music videos, they are both a visual treat for designers and a lyrical adventure for aspiring musicians. Remember to spread the world and keep on designing
